nowords comics - call for entries

manifesto_definitivo.jpg

We're proud to present Bolzano Comics, an international comic contest dedicated to short, wordless comics that narrate without the use of the classic balloon, and are therefore international by their very nature.

The contest was born as part of the Bolzano ShortFilmFestival, an event which has seen, in the last years, a rising interest for animation and comics. Hence the need to strenghten the link between these worlds through an ad hoc contest.

Submission deadline: August 15th 2009

First price: 500 Euro

Second price: 200 Euro

My Nasty Sister: canvans on bag

My Nasty Sister is the new project of Nicola Ferrarese, illustrator and editorial manager of the publishing house Edizioni del Vento. Below some shots:

That's my favorite, I confess, the puppet: kill'em all! I am sure she loves Metallica.

On the website you can read: EACH BAG IS DESIGNED AND HAND-PAINTED BY CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS, AND EACH ARTICLE IS CANVAS MADE, UNIQUE AND UNREPEATABLE! ALL BAGS ARE HANDMADE BY OUR TAYLOR, COME ON...BE NASTY!!!

Nicola thinks that girls - economic crisis or not - are always attracted by personalized, exclusive and high quality bags. They wish and are ready to spend.

This one reminds me the colorful world of the Finnish artist Tommi Musturi and his Glömp.

Check all the bags of the factory here: mynastysister.com \ email: mynastysister at gmail.com

Italian comics in Belgrade

stripsito.jpg

At the Italian cultural institute in Belgrade there was an exhibition that represents a retrospective of the first 100 years of the Italian comics with more than 250 illustrations divided into 9 sections.

MARKO ANDREJIĆ, Wave Magazine deux ex machina, met the curator of the event Andrea Plazzi:

«I can see that in the entire history of Italian comic books there are openness and sensitivity of Italian authors to foreign influences and authors. An example would be 1910s and 1920s when French influences came into Italy - for example, Antonio Rubino was one of the biggest importers of French art in Italian comic books production. This is followed by 1930s and '40s when Italian authors opened themselves to adventure comics and American school, first of all to Alex Raymond, the author of Flash Gordon. After that to Milton Cliff who influenced Italian authors, among which were Hugo Prat and Aurelio Galepini, author of Tex, one of the most influential Italian heroes, and all the way to Paolo Parisi who is our guest in Belgrade these days.»
